Cake Vol. 2 by Shellyne Rodriguez

20.00

Shellyne Rodriguez is a Multidisciplinary Artist from the Bronx, NY.

Cake Vol. 1 and Cake Vol. 2 presents ways in which one might think about power. Volume one was conceived with a bottom-up perspective, and volume two is top-down. The title has a double meaning and is also a play on the top-to-bottom concept. "Cake" refers to Marie Antoinette's famous (yet misquoted) "let them eat cake," as well as "getting cake," which is slang for making money. Together the books, collections of collage, found imagery, and drawings make up an exploration of the forms and deities that manifest when capitalism, pop culture, celebrity worship and worship of the rich takes the place of firmament post religious life and what that looks like when intersected with race and class structures.
